alarm

Recently Elizabeth and I have changed our runs to the Fullerton Loop. It' so much more scenic, and more enjoyable than just running the same paths around our neighborhoods. Ironically I have seen far less wildlife in the trail than I saw in the park next to my house, or dead in the street. But there are SO many more people. Let me tell you the loop is the place to be if you run/walk/have a dog/ or ride a bike. I have so far managed to not get hit by crazy cyclists too.

But no matter how great it is, there is something about it that just completely discombobulates me. More times than not when we have gone I have managed to set off my car alarm. I am back to the days of constant alarm. Saturday morning, [i am going to blame this one on the early morning and lack of coffee] I being the genius that I am decided to leave my clicker in my car, and just put my key in my pocket. Yeah that worked really well until I shut the door and the alarm started up. And oh yeah look at that I can't turn it off  cuz the clicker is locked in my car, zipped in my purse buried under the seat. It took what felt like an eternity to unlock the car and get it stopped while all the people gave me the stare down for disrupting their morning silence. Then last night I thought I was being smart, and avoiding the same problem by bringing the clicker instead of the key. Cuz really I don't need the key right? I just need to lock and unlock the car. No such luck for me. I have special skills. Locked the car, and took off down the trail, only to get a few yards and hear a car alarm blaring in the parking lot. I stopped, said to Elizabeth "what are the chances that is my car....again?" Sure enough, it was the Matrix.

If you are ever at the Fullerton Loop and hear a car alarm going off, it is safe to assume it is my car, and no one is trying to steal it.

bows

After a fair amount of drama [on my part] from sizing and styles and sliders and patterns they are all finished. The wedding can officially happen. Who knew bow ties could be such a complex thing to make?

baby baby

Are you singing Amy Grant? I hope so, I was most of Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately Angela was not with me....so I had to sing it in my head as to not be embarrassed by people thinking I am crazy -and a horrible singer.

Anywho, Saturday late late night Bethany and Michael had their baby!!!! Blessing, she is currently in the NICU, getting over an infection, but looking good otherwise.
Michael took me in for a little visit - she looks a bit like a mummy since they had her face covered.
I did manage to get a quick peak at her face. She is adorable.

When I was there I realized I don't know the last time I had visited a baby in the hospital, well over ten years I am sure, and I don't know that I have ever visited one in ICU - having to do an official arm scrub to allowed in. It was a real treat.

roadkill

I don't always watch where I am going, not a good trait, but I get distracted, by talking, or music, or thoughts, pretty much anything. Yesterday I learned that not really paying attention while running is not such a good idea. [don't worry I myself am not the roadkill the title is referencing] I was just our running, having a lovely time, singing and bobbing my head to the music, when I felt my foot his something.

It felt different than the normal uneven surfaces, sticks or leaves that I sometimes trip over. I should not have looked down. I should have just kept right along running without checking out what my foot touched. But no. I had to go and be curious -and then get grossed out.

Of course it was not uneven concrete or sticks or leaves.
It was an opossum.
And yes I did stop and take a photo - because how often to you almost trip on an opossum?  I am thinking it is one of those once in a lifetime things.

statistics

You know that crazy statistic people always say, that all people in their lifetime will eat 8 spiders in their sleep? Well I am not one of those people, maybe I will eat seven in my lifetime, but definitely not eight.....and I have proof.

This morning as I woke up and rolled over I was greeted with this lovely sight.

A smashed spider - SO GROSS!
Instead of eating them, I smash them.

I'm glad it was dead of course. But it being dead on my pillow meant that at some point in my sleep I had rolled over and killed it with my head......I am hoping it was my hair and not my face.  Although now there may be stray spider guts stuck in my hair somewhere, probably should have washed it this morning ha!

public restrooms

Just a warning this post is all about the bathroom, yes you read that right. And it might be TMI, you might find it gross, but I personally think it is funny enough that it had to be shared.

My office building has one public restroom for all the offices, so lots of people use it. Since day one there has always been tons of women who talk on their phones while in the stalls. I have always found that to be strange and gross for a number of reasons, but last week it got all the worse. I walked in and there was someone already in a stall, immediately after the door closed (and she herd me enter) she started playing music on her phone. Strange, but ok whatever. Then I guess that was not loud enough for her because she started to sing along. Seriously Lady Gaga's Poker Face, I heard the whole song. As I was drying my hands she came out, and I just could not get myself to look up and give a polite head nod in passing. I could hardly contain my laughter as I fled from the room.

Then yesterday, instead of singing it was just back to talking. But this time I overheard a rather intense argument that ended with "well FINE! it's either her or me, you can't have both!!!!!!" then some mumbled yelling and a kick to the stall door. My deductive reasoning leads me to believe that she broke up with her boyfriend. Really people? The bathroom stall is not the place for these conversations.

mail call

A couple of days ago I opened the mailbox and found this gem crammed inside.
I was SO excited. Way more excited than would be age appropriate - if any excitement over such a catalogue would be appropriate for anyone over the age of 8. For some strange reason I thought that it was going to be addressed to me. As if someone at the American Girl company magically knew my address and would enjoy receiving their catalogue. So I was a little disappointed when I flipped it over and saw that it was really for one of the little girls that had lived in our house before us. I am secretly hoping they don't update their address and we keep receiving them hehe!
